Listening to political campaign rhetoric, reading The Press (including letters to the editor), and campaign fliers I have concluded that numerous people with political aspirations should be ashamed. It is a sad day in America when candidates for local and federal offices all the way to the presidency use deception to get a few extra votes. They convince themselves that the end justifies the means. They believe that being elected is more important than their honesty. Something is wrong in the judgment of those candidates who knowingly deceive the electorate and call it strategy or “just a campaign tactic.” I am sorry, but it is purposely misleading the people. There are those who just assume that candidates for office are honest. They willingly accept the deceit as truth.

While we owe it to the voters to be honest, we also have a responsibility before God to tell the truth. The Bible makes it very clear that we are to be obedient to God in truth telling. Deut. 11:26-28 says Those who obey God, He will bless; those who disobey Him, He will curse. Politicians all over America use deception in their campaign speeches then conclude their speeches by saying, “God bless America.” That is hypocrisy! The kind of respect our Founding Fathers who wrote the Declaration of Independence had for God no longer exists with too many leaders and aspiring leaders. Evoking God by saying God bless America becomes nothing more than a cliche.

For the most part I have been speaking in generalities. However, what bothers me the most about the deceptive campaign literature some of it was distributed by people that I agree with philosophically and politically. Since I was not a candidate for an elected office, most of the deception did not affect me personally. However, I am offended by the NIC Board of Trustees candidates who accuse the present board of outrageous tax increases and wasteful spending. It is amazing how you can separate figures from the larger picture of the various sources of revenue and expenditures regarding North Idaho College. Accusing the board of wasteful spending is an affront to my integrity. Every meeting we had dealing with the budget we discussed the impact our decisions would have on the taxpayer. At a time when there was a 46 percent increase in the enrollment and a decrease in state appropriations we sharpened our pencils and tightened our belts to balance the budget. As a board we were not always in agreement, but we worked together and compromised for the good of the college and the taxpaying citizens of Kootenai County. For those of you who purposefully used deceit and made false accusations it is time to acknowledge and repent of your wrongful behavior.

I close my remarks not with God bless America but with GOD HELP AMERICA!

Ron Nilson. The same Ron Nilson that helped bring us KTEC? He has done more for education than the yahoo's that stole money through unethical but BARELY and questionably legal loopholes to bring you the Commercial Corridor.

    Thank you Ron and Todd.

I believe Ron is an honest man, but he is wrong on this matter. It wasn't deceptive campaigning that gave Nilson and Banducci seats on the NIC Board of Trustees, but rather the fact that they have a vision to build a better community college that will meet the needs of our residents.

It's not deception that the US Chamber of Commerce gave all three Idaho community colleges failing grades in the Leaders and Laggards report. It is also not deception that millions of dollars were spent creating the Education Corridor, yet not one classroom was added. Those are facts.

I'm sure Mr. Vieselmeyer is understandably disappointed that his guys lost, but the public questioning of Nilson and Banducci's faith and integrity serves little but to cause division and give the appearance of sour grapes over the outcome.

As a parent of two teen-agers who will be attending NIC in the future, I welcome the new blood and fresh ideas Ron Nilson and Todd Banducci will bring.

and you begin your meetings with a prayer, then turn around and deliver an EdCor shaft to your neighbor. I recall a scripture about a man begging forgiveness for much then hammering a debtor for the pennies he owed. May CDA leadership at all levels be delivered before the King for judgment.

Sounds like we are going in the right direction.

The same RON VIESELMEYER who ran with his pal Fill in district 2? Maybe I'm a conspiracist but it sure seemed to be an attempt to split the vote against Ed Morse.

RON VIESELMEYER. I fear that too many people like you, like me, want and continue to live like our world, even here in this small corner of the globe, is not gone. There has been a paradigm shift, and we cannot be naive. Wake up, dear man. From the election of Precinct Committeemen to appointments to the high court, to elections to Congress and the Highest office in the US, it is almost sure, truth is relative now and honor is a word Islam might understand(in the context of their religion), and perhaps for our fighting men, but fading from our lexicons lost to most, because the prevailing "faith" in our country is Leftism. That is where man is center to existence, and good and evil, right and wrong no longer demand recognition, because man is god and he says. The Lie is the law of governance; the Lie is the the right of force and Change. The Progressives are ruling now.
