This letter to the editor is in response to the Sunday, July 1 letter that Dan Gookin submitted to the Coeur d’Alene Press. First of all Dan, I want to thank you for attending the June North Idaho College Board of Trustees meeting. I did recognize you as a guest and that you had signed the public comment form, but then noticed that your name was crossed out. I do wish that you could have stayed longer than just a few minutes and had a chance to hear all of the great things that are happening at NIC.
As to your concern of NIC using email for our student billing, I can understand your concern. I have had three of my own children/students enroll for classes at the University of Idaho, the University of Arizona, online at Boise State University, online at Brigham Young University and as a dual enrolled student at NIC. Every one of these institutions has the same policy.
They are all very succinct in informing the incoming student that all communication including billing, grades, updates, etc., will be through their college email account. It is truly the student’s responsibility to stay informed and read their emails. Also, once the student reaches the age of 18, they are an adult, and even though you may be paying the tuition bill, all information will only be released to the student.
Once again Dan, thanks for showing your support for NIC, for it is a great learning institution.
Chairman of the Board
