Thanks to your trustee Regan, racism is once again, alive and well in Cd’A, Idaho. In front of 100 people and legislators he made a comment about gun control and said that people could not figure out what an assault weapon was, and “its black and looks scary.” To which his wife replied, “Well, so is Obama”
When confronted with the prejudiced nature of these comments, Regan digs his hole even deeper and says “it was a humorous anecdote.” To those who are discriminated against because of color, they don’t consider such incidents humorous. He went on to say, that it never occurred to him that the comments could be construed as racist. A third-grader could figure out the racist nature of this comment.
I was here and witnessed the damage, including economic, that this community suffered at the hands of Richard Butler. Racial minorities were intimidated by him. Whenever I traveled, I was confronted with the white racist label that North Idaho received. The reality is that many people in this community still discriminate because of race. I have friends of other races that have given me examples. If our school district is not aware of this prejudice, they are blind.
I had the privilege of speaking to 20 children at the KROC recently. I explained that we must treat all people equally. They did not understand this, because they already treat all races equally.
Prejudice and racism is a taught and learned behavior.
Our school district has a duty to teach children respect for all races. They also have a duty to teach respect for our President, where Regan and his racist wife, obviously have none. Regan sets an unacceptable racist viewpoint, and the children get to talk and read about this.
He then has the audacity to say that he never understood the racial nature of his comments, until he spoke with someone from another race than his own. He is in a leadership position and this is what our 10,000 students get to observe.
I am requesting an investigation by the NAACP in Spokane of this incident. I do this because having lived here for years, I know that some things get quietly pushed under the rug for political reasons. Our local Human Rights group adopted a patsy approach, and failed to request his resignation. To leave Regan in, the district is endorsing his disgusting public racist behavior.
I want our school levies to pass. Our school district needs to conduct damage control here, and they need to demand his immediate resignation.
