PREP WRESTLING: Herbert sparks Timberlake in War of the Waters

SPIRIT LAKE — In his first match in nearly a year, senior Noah Herbert of Timberlake edged Manual Naccarato of Priest River 5-4 at 132 pounds, and the Tigers went on to rout the Spartans 63-17 in the annual War of the Waters wrestling dual Thursday night.

Herbert suffered a knee injury last year during the Van Tuinstra tournament, which Lakeland hosted. Then, he suffered a shoulder injury during preseason practice this fall.

“It was nice to see him come back,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. “We’re young; we have a lineup full of sophomores. And to have a senior come in, with his senior leadership, it makes us a more mature team.”

It was the fourth straight year Timberlake won the War of the Waters since Amos returned as coach. The last three years, the dual went down to the final match, but with Priest River forfeiting at five weights, this one was never in doubt.

“They have three solid kids at 132, 138 and 145, and we got two wins out of the three,” Amos said.

Timberlake wrestles in the River City Duals today and Saturday at Post Falls High.
