PASCO, Wash. — North Idaho College locked down Columbia Basin defensively in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Hawks 23-8 on the way to a 66-59 win in Northwest Athletic Conference play on Wednesday.

“They struggled to find some open looks and we really shut them down,” NIC coach Chris Carlson said. “The girls were realy determined and wanted to get it done tonight. They hung in there and kept battling.”

Freshman Sydney Hovde had 23 points and 11 rebounds for NIC (15-7, 6-4 NWAC), which hosts Treasure Valley on Saturday.

“She was a force,” said Carlson of Hovde. “We knew we had some size on them, but she came out and scored, and scored, and scored. She was just huge for us.”
