ST. GEORGE, Utah — Lake City beat Union of Roosevelt, Utah, 13-1 and beat Davis of Kaysville, Utah, 4-3 to finish 2-1 on the first day at the March Warm Up Elite Tournament on Friday.

Lake City lost its first game of the day, 7-4 to Cedar City (Utah).

In the opener, Olivia Zufelt hit a solo homer, Haley Loffer went 2 for 4 and Reilley Chapman drove in two runs and scored once for the Timberwolves.

Against Union, Jalyssa Beamer hit a grand slam in the fourth inning for Lake City, and finished with five RBIs. Abby Jankay went 3 for 4 with a two-run homer in the fifth, and also scored two runs. Chapman wend 2 for 3 with a bases-clearing double in the second, and Emma Gray was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Against Davis, Emma Gray hit a two-run homer and Beamer went 3 for 3 with two runs scored.

“Overall, today was a great experience for us and we got to see some great competition,” Lake City coach Jesse Lenz said. “We saw a lot of good things and definitely saw some things we need to work on. I could not be more proud of the effort from the girls, and I thought AK (Ashley Kaufman) threw the ball extremely well for the first outing of the year, especially against a tough Davis team. It was nice to see the bats come alive with home runs from Jalyssa, OZ (Zufelt), Abby Jankay and Emma.”

Lake City is scheduled to play Stansbury of Erda, Utah, and Springville (Utah) today to wrap up tourney play.
