Coeur d’Alene police are urging residents to secure their homes after a prowler gave a homeowner a scare Tuesday morning.

While investigating noises coming from the basement of a home in Coeur d’Alene Place, near Lake City High School, the home’s owner was confronted by an unknown individual who had gained access to the residence.

The intruder fled the home after being confronted. No one was injured.

Although Coeur d’Alene patrol officers arrived in the area within minutes, the intruder was not located and is still at large.

The Coeur d’Alene Police Department is reminding city residents to ensure their homes are secure at all times, especially during the holiday season.

“It is not uncommon for thieves to check the status of and enter unsecured residences and vehicles looking for items that can be quickly taken,” said a statement issued Wednesday by the police department. “As always, if you see suspicious activity and/or individuals in your neighborhood do not hesitate to contact the police.”
