A Common Core opposition campaign now winging its way through Washington will make a whistle stop in Coeur d'Alene.
J.R. Wilson - a Washington-based, anti-Common Core activist - will speak Friday from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library, 720 E. Front Ave., in the Community Room.
The free event entitled "Common Core State Standards: What Are They and Why Should I Care?" is sponsored by the Coeur d'Alene United Parents Forum.
Organizers say Wilson has 30 years of experience in public education including 20 years in the classroom. He is one of the founders of Truth in American Education an organization that describes itself as "a nonpartisan group of citizens concerned about the centralization of education through the Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, Assessment Consortiums and Data Mining."
