COEUR d'ALENE - Three people in a minivan were killed in a head-on collision with another vehicle on U.S. 95 south of Athol shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday.

Idaho State Police said in a press release that Mathew-Michael T. Baroni, 33; Madilyn Baroni, 8; and Molly Baroni, 6, all of Spokane, were killed.

ISP said none of the three were wearing seat belts.

They were traveling southbound in a 1997 Dodge Caravan on the highway when they encountered Ryan J. Turner, 27, of Hayden, traveling northbound in the southbound lane.

The two vehicles collided head-on at milepost 448, and Baroni and the two girls died at the scene.

Turner, who was driving a 2011 Chevy Silverado, was injured. He was taken to Kootenai Health. He was wearing a seat belt, ISP said.

The southbound lanes were closed for approximately four hours due to the crash and investigation.

ISP said the investigation is continuing.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office and Idaho Transportation Department were the assisting agencies.
