Rathdrum man dies in two-vehicle crash

TWIN LAKES — An 18-year-old Rathdrum man died following a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on State Highway 41 near Twin Lakes.

Andrew S. Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:44 p.m. accident, Idaho State Police reported.

Lucas was a passenger in a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Tytus W. Aske, 18, of Spirit Lake. The Jetta was traveling south on Highway 41 when it slid out of control into the northbound lanes, and collided broadside with a 2002 Ford F150 pickup driven by Ronnie L. Vaughn, 68, of Priest River, police reported.

Vaughn, his passenger Debra A. Vaughn, 65, also of Priest River, and Aske all were transported to Kootenai Health with undisclosed injuries, police reported. All were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.

The roadway was blocked for about three hours on Saturday afternoon.
