WALL: Another opition

Print Article

Would it be possible to resolve this unconstructive political game of chicken that has shut down our government to the detriment of many of our citizens, by simply turning it over to the Border Patrol?

I suggest that the president and his opposition agree to commit the funds in question to the discretion of ranking Border Patrol officials on the ground. The Border Patrol may then determine what is required in the way of additional staff, barriers, drones and other technology to secure the southern border. These border security officers would report back to the federal government on a regular basis regarding the implementation and efficacy of their decisions and adjust them accordingly.

In this way, neither side of this contrived mess will need to admit political loss, and the government can be immediately reopened.

Is that OK, or am I just dreaming again?
