Hayden spelling champ advances to Scripps Bee finals

Joseph Moran is continuing to make spelling bee history.

This time, he’s going all the way.

The Inland Northwest Christian Homeschool seventh-grader is the first North Idaho contestant to advance to the finals in the 16 years The Press has sponsored the North Idaho Regional Spelling Bee and sent the winner to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

“Joseph got both his on-stage words correct and feels good about the written test,” his mom Sally Moran reported to The Press early Wednesday.

Sally sent the exciting news that he made the finals via text message late in the afternoon, along with a photo of a smiling Joseph on stage with the 49 other winners and a photo of him with his medal.

He will continue his stellar spelling live on ESPN2 Thursday morning at 7.
