Post Falls offers berm program

| September 9, 2017 1:00 AM

POST FALLS — Signups for Post Falls' snow berm reduction program for seniors and those with disabilities are being accepted now through Nov. 1.

Applications and medical release forms are available to download at city of Post Falls Snow Berm Program or can be picked up in the Utilities Department (second floor) or Community Development Department (first floor) at City Hall, 408 N. Spokane St.

Applications are not renewable, so residents must apply each year. This year the city is not sending out reminder letters.

Last year, 388 households participated in the program.

"Plow drivers will reduce the size of the berm so it is passable, but there will still be a berm there," said Kit Hoffer, city spokeswoman. "The city doesn’t remove the berm or clear the driveways of all snow."

Households will be eligible if someone is unable to remove the berm due to a qualifying disability, injury or illness, and there is no one else in the household physically able to remove the snow.

To qualify for the program, all adult members of the household must submit a signed "Terms of Program" letter and medical release form. Use an additional form for each person.

Medical release forms must be filled out by a doctor and returned to the city. Applications will not be considered until all forms are completed and received by the city.

Households participating will have markers placed at their driveway so plow drivers can identify homes in the program.
