NIC SOFTBALL: Hobson, Rockwell help Cardinals crush Blue Mountain

| April 26, 2024 1:15 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Sophomore Kennedy Hobson hit three home runs on the day, two coming in the first game for North Idaho College in a 24-0 and 25-5 sweep of Blue Mountain in Northwest Athletic Conference play at Memorial Field on Thursday.

NIC (25-2, 17-0 NWAC) has now won 19 straight games dating back to March 9 vs. Mt. Hood in a NWAC crossover tournament.

“We’ve been putting things together on offense,” NIC coach Shay Chapman said. “We’ve got pitching and can score a lot of runs. We’ve got depth as well and these girls are on a mission to win an NWAC championship, and you can tell with the numbers we’re putting up.”

Kristine Schmidt, a freshman from Coeur d'Alene High, struck out seven in a two-hit shutout in the opener.

Thursday's games, originally scheduled for Saturday, were moved up due to inclement weather in the forecast.

Hayden Rockwell also homered twice in the opener for NIC, which is scheduled to host Treasure Valley today in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at Memorial Field.
