Katie Lynn Nield, 37

December 23, 1979 — December 14, 2017

Like the many quilts Katie crafted, her life was stitched together by an incredible love for her family and friends. She was selfless and always put others before herself. Even as a child she was the unspoken caretaker for her four younger siblings. She was so patient, so sweet, and had a heart so big she loved others unconditionally. She forgave easily and gave often.

She is survived by her husband, Mike, and three sons, Jordon, Micah and Reilly. Her parents (Kathy and Rick), siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, grandparents, in-laws, husband, and sons were more than family to her — they were her closest friends.

Her husband was not only her first true love, but was also her very best friend. Married for 17 years, they exemplified what a happy, healthy marriage should look like.

Her sweet temperament was matched only by her stubbornness. She was determined and strong. Even when life threw her challenges, her strength of mind and character would get her through them. She was the first in her family to graduate from college and earned a teaching degree. She used this degree to work and care for children with special needs. Katie loved kids. Every niece and nephew was greeted and loved upon as if they were her own.

If you asked her, she would tell you her greatest accomplishments were her three boys. All three have amazing personalities mirroring Katie’s. Jordon, 19, has her love for the Lord and is currently serving on his LDS mission. Micah, 10, has a smile and tender heart as big as his mom’s. Reilly, 7, is an out-of-the-box-thinker who does things his way.

She taught her boys and the rest of us what is really important in life. She was tough, yet sensitive, and knew what it meant to love. Most importantly though, she taught us to never miss a good cartoon, snuggle often, and always eat your dessert first.

A time of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at the LDS Church, 15151 N. Meyer Road, Rathdrum, Idaho. Doors will open at 10 a.m.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Katie’s online memorial and sign her guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
