PREP GIRLS SOCCER: Lasher leads Lake City to win over Cd’A

COEUR d’ALENE — Maddy Lasher scored a pair of goals as the visiting Lake City Timberwolves spotted Coeur d’Alene an early goal and responded with a 4-1 victory in 5A Inland Empire League play on Saturday.

“We started off quick, but congrats to (coach) Matt (Ruchti) and the Lake City girls — they came out strong, especially after we scored,” Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. “They came out and wanted it more.”

Jordan Roth scored in the second minute for Coeur d’Alene (3-4, 1-1 5A IEL), which finished the game with 10 players after receiving a red card midway through the second half.

On Tuesday, Lake City (6-2, 2-0) plays host to Post Falls, and Coeur d’Alene travels to Lewiston.

POST FALLS — Getting a little bit healthier, the Trojans played the visiting Bengals to a scoreless draw in 5A IEL play.

“The girls are looking so much better as we start to get some of our players back of the IR list,” Post Falls coach Steven Mills said. “Freshman Ashley Grant had a nice clean sheet in goal. The central play of Lauren Hoffeld in the back line and Morgan Rust in the midfield was fantastic. We also got good time from Bethany Gilmor — we are definitely a better team when she is on the field.”

Post Falls (3-5-1, 0-1-1 5A IEL) visits Lake City on Tuesday.

Lewiston is 0-1-1 in league.

SPIRIT LAKE — Senior midfielder Georgina Simpson scored a hat trick, and the host Tigers blanked the Spartans in Intermountain League play at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field for their fourth straight shutout.

“She’s definitely one of the harder workers on the team, so it’s nice to see her get rewarded like that,” Timberlake coach Steve Michael said of Simpson.

Freshman Ella Nunn notched the shutout in goal for Timberlake (5-1-1, 5-1-1 IML), which travels to Spokane on Tuesday to play St. George’s.
