SPOKANE — Filip Kral scored 2 minutes into overtime as the Spokane Chiefs, who trailed by two goals entering the third period, beat the Victoria Royals 4-3 in Western Hockey League play Saturday night before 6,803 at the Spokane Arena.
Kral’s shot from the right side deflected off the skate of a Victoria player and into the net for his ninth goal of the season.
The Chiefs trailed 2-0 after one period before Post Falls native Bear Hughes scored his 10th goal of the season at 15:32 of the second period. Victoria answered 59 seconds later and led 3-1 after two periods.
Erik Atchison scored on a rebound of his own shot at 9:35 of the third to pull Spokane within a goal. Adam Beckman’s goal from between the circles at 12:52 tied the game.
Spokane outshot Victoria 19-5 in the the third period and overtime, and 34-22 for the game.
Spokane, in third place in the U.S. Division, six points back of co-leaders Portland and Everett, plays host to Seattle on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
