MISSOULA, Mont. — Entering only nine wrestlers into the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic, Coeur d’Alene is seventh with 82 points in the 30-team tournament at Sentinel High after the first day on Friday.

Drew Roberts (138 pounds) and Gunner Giulio (160) advanced to the semifinals, while Kyle Bridge (103), Hunter Schueller (132), Bear Brunner (170), Jackson Washington (205) and Jackson Kohal remain in the consolation bracket for Coeur d’Alene. Coeur d’Alene is missing four starters due to injury.

“I was really pleased with the overall effort,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “Especially with some of those younger guys. They’re starting to gain some confidence and wrestle really well.”

Caden Hess (113), Mahlon Clark (205) and Matthew Whitcomb (182) advanced for Lake City, which is 11th with 73 points.

“It’s a tough tournament, but I’m pleased with how the guys are wrestling right now,” said Lake City coach Corey Owen, whose team also had nine wrestlers compete due to injuries. “I think we could have a good day on Saturday.”

Owen Hughes (285), Nate Garner (126) and Chase Richardson (145) are in the consolation bracket for Lake City.

Great Falls (Mont.) leads the tournament with 112 points.

Semifinals are today at 11 a.m. PST, with championship finals at 3:30 p.m.

SANDPOINT — The visiting Hawks started the night with a pin, then closed with another to beat the Bulldogs in the Battle for the Paddle spirit dual at Sandpoint High.

Jarrod Killian (220 pounds), Sam Feusier (285), Peyton Wysong (106), Alex Edelblute (126), Colton Dow (138), Ryan Quimby (170) and John White (195) had pins for Lakeland, which competes in the Van Tuinstra Memorial Duals tournament today starting at 9 a.m. at Timberlake High.

“The kids came out and wrestled hard,” Lakeland coach Rob Edelblute said. “It’s a pretty wild night with the crowd and the fans, but I was happy with the kids’ performance. We couldn’t hear ourselves and put some kids in the lineup that we normally don’t have in there, but it was a fun night, a great, great time. It’s a blast and good for the sport.”
