RATHDRUM — Sandpoint and Lakeland put on an offensive show Thursday night at Hawk Court.

Senior Ben Zubaly had 19 points and 10 assists, and led five Lakeland players into double figures as the Hawks outscored the Sandpoint Bulldogs 91-77 in the 4A Inland Empire League finale for both teams.

“Sandpoint is a much-improved team from the first time we played them, in the Battle for the Paddle,” said Lakeland coach Dave Stockwell, whose Hawks beat the Bulldogs 57-40 on Jan. 17 in Sandpoint. “They have good shooters and good size. And we put the ball in the hole on a regular basis, too.”

Carson Seay hit three 3-pointers and added 17 points for Lakeland (15-3, 2-2 4A IEL). Noah Haaland scored 14 points, Ammon Munyer had 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Abe Munyer scored 10 points.

Kobe Banks made three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 23 points for Sandpoint (9-11, 0-4). Christian Niemela also hit three 3s and added 18 points for the Bulldogs.

On senior night, seniors Brandon Furey, Travis Derrick, Eric Saasen and Tyler Elizondo joined Zubaly, usually the lone senior starter, in the starting lineup.

“Those seniors went after it pretty good,” Stockwell said.

Lakeland clinched the No. 2 seed to the 4A Region 1 tournament with the victory, and will host No. 3 Sandpoint in a loser-out first-round game Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. in Rathdrum.

But first, Lakeland plays host to Lewiston in a makeup game Saturday at 5 p.m., then travels to Lake City on Tuesday to conclude the regular season.

Sandpoint plays host to Bonners Ferry tonight at 5:30 for its senior night.
