A sheriff’s deputy ran into a power pole early Wednesday morning after colliding with a passenger car, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Bodine Avenue and McGuire Road around 6:33 a.m. Kootenai County Undersheriff Brett Nelson said a preliminary investigation indicates the passenger vehicle pulled out in front of the patrol car.

The deputy sustained minor injuries and was transported to Kootenai Health, while the K-9 riding in the vehicle with him was examined by a veterinarian and determined to be unhurt.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was uninjured, according to the sheriff’s office.

Nelson said the patrol car was totaled in the crash.

Idaho State Police are investigating the matter.
