COEUR d’ALENE — A new leader in The Press managing editor’s office will soon bridge traditional print journalism and digital excellence, according to Clint Schroeder, President of the Hagadone Corporation’s Communications Division.

Robert Monteith’s first day on the job is Monday.

Monteith is a veteran journalist with newspaper experience that includes Idaho, having worked for the Moscow-Pullman Daily News and the Times-News in Twin Falls. He’s recognized for award-winning work in managing newsrooms at two Alaska newspapers and delivering quality reports throughout the day on those papers’ websites.

"Robert's appointment marks a significant milestone in our continuous effort to bring high-quality journalism and innovative perspectives to our community," Schroeder said. "His vast experience and successful track record in leading newsrooms through periods of transformation are exactly what the Coeur d'Alene Press needs as we look to the future."

A graduate of Humboldt State University in California, Monteith has managed a group of weekly newspapers in Kitsap County, Wash. He has also been managing editor of the Siskyou Daily News in rural California, editor and publisher of the Kodiak (Alaska) Daily Mirror and general manager/executive editor of the Juneau (Alaska) Empire.

After conducting a national search, Schroeder said Monteith should fit in well not just inside The Press building in downtown Coeur d’Alene, but outside it, too.

“His leadership is a win not just for our newsroom but for our community as a whole, promising a future rich with compelling storytelling and informed, diverse perspectives," he said.

Monteith succeeds Maureen Dolan, who accepted another job opportunity locally in February.
