Comments wanted on restoration projects in Shoshone County

COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District is seeking public comments on two project proposals in Shoshone County.
The Shoshone Park Restroom Replacement project proposes to install two double stall vault toilets to replace deteriorating vault toilets, improve accessibility and decommission existing cesspools, according to a Forest Service press release.
Shoshone Park is a historic group user site located on Larson Road near Mullan.
Little Guard Lookout and Recreation Rental Cabin is a historic fire lookout located near Little Guard Peak. The Little Guard Lookout Restoration project proposes to complete recommended restoration work to the historic Little Guard Lookout and Rental Cabin with work including replacing the roof systems, stair stringers, windows and shutters, the release said.
As both Shoshone Park and Little Guard Lookout are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, any modification to the buildings or surrounding property requires compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
Public comments will be accepted through May 7.
