From a songwriter's heart

| March 22, 2024 1:00 AM

I picked up People Magazine
While waiting for a plane
They interviewed a movie star
About his favorite things

He spoke of his possessions
For which he’d sold his soul
His yacht on the Pacific
All his diamonds and his gold

His mansion down in Malibu
Looked down upon the sea
His new wife with her silicone
As smooth as smooth can be

Souvenirs collected
once reserved for kings
On and on he listed
All his favorite things

I couldn’t help but wonder
What would I have said
Rather than that poor lost soul
Had they questioned me instead

Possessions that I have are few
My wants and needs are small
And all my favorite things
Aren’t really things at all

The sound of rainbow trout
That’s falling from the sky
In an airborne dance of joy
Its hunger satisfied

The taste of cotton candy
The smell of bacon fryin’
That old bullfrog croakin’
As the evening sun is dyin’

The twilight colors spread
Across the heavens by sunrise
The fleeting glance of lightning
As it splits the darkened sky

The rolling sound of thunder
That makes me feel so small
Laughter real and uncontrolled
At some comment off the wall

For I value most the times I’ve spent
With my family and my friends
That bring me joy as I relive them
Time and time again

The moon that hangs by God knows what
For all on Earth to see
The smell of summer rain
All favorite things to me

And yes for me I’ve had it all
That can’t be bought nor sold
Can’t be lost nor stolen
When time declares me old

For I only have to close my eyes
And easily recall
for all those favorite things of mine
That aren’t really things at all.
