PROTESTERS: No sympathy here
The whole world is laughing at us, including Hamas. All these protests at colleges, this is what happens when left faculty is allowed to teach this young, pampered generation. This is the same generation who has no idea what it took to make this country safe. Maybe because they are not taught any history. Instead they have DEI courses and are taught how evil the U.S. is.

Guardianship court should be a last resort — not a first option
If you are an adult in Idaho and become unable to make your own decisions in life due to injury, illness, or some other form of incapacity, there are generally two ways in which another person becomes the stand-in decision maker for you. The first way is through the use of a previously written and signed Power of Attorney Document in which you will have stated who it is that should make your decisions for you if you cannot do so. That stand-in decision maker is called your “Agent” or your “Attorney in Fact.” However, if you have not previously completed valid Power of Attorney documents, a judge will need to appoint someone to become your decision maker through a court process known as Guardianship and Conservatorship. If a judge has to appoint your stand-in decision maker, that person will be called your “guardian” and/or “conservator.”

THE FRONT ROW with MARK NELKE: Pitching and weather — it's state softball time in North Idaho

ELECTION: Don’t ignore the 50+
Across this great state of ours, Idahoans are considering who to vote for in the upcoming primary election on May 21; and the candidates are doing everything they can to try to earn those votes. One fact should be top of mind: voters 50 years and older decide elections, and candidates who ignore this powerful segment of the electorate do so at their own peril. Voters 50 plus are the majority in every election. In fact, in 2022, 64% of the electorate in Idaho was 50 and older.

ELECTION: Morrisroe a proven leader
Precinct 312 Committeeman Greg McKenzie is one of the three incompetent and divisive NIC trustees who was “rated and vetted” by the KCRCC. He does NOT mention that he is an NIC Trustee or any other community service or local roots or family ties.
MY TURN: A CLN trustee's view from the inside

ELECTION: Support slate of proven leaders
As the May 21 primary election approaches, I urge all citizens to exercise their right to vote and participate in shaping the future of our community. One crucial way to do this is by casting your ballot for your precinct committee person.
ELECTION: Let’s get back to normal
Until recently I paid no attention to Precinct Committeemen. That was before the turmoil on the NIC Board, whose meetings I have been attending. That’s when I came to understand their importance; while I was paying no attention the zealots took over. I’m back in the game now and I hope you are too. It’s time to return to normal.

KCRCC: Here’s why change is warranted
Much has been said by acolytes of the KCRCC extolling the virtues of its process for “rating and vetting” candidates. Little has been said regarding the process’s shortcomings.

RACISM: Justice just wasn’t served
I understand the constraints of the legal system regarding the harassment of the Utah women’s athletes who were visiting our city. However, by not even giving him a slap on the wrist, the message is sent to other “fun” seekers that this behavior is fine and will have NO consequences. Very disappointing.
ELECTION: Patzer, Masterson endorsed
I support and encourage voting for Dave Patzer for Precinct Committeeman, district 205, and Bat Masterson for county commissioner.
RACISM: Hatred growing in Lake City
When the city of Coeur d’Alene last week failed to criminally charge, or in some other manner, address the situation regarding screaming racist taunts and threatening gestures toward college visitors to Coeur d’Alene, I’m sad to say it only reaffirmed my family’s decision to move from Coeur d’Alene to Spokane Valley in 2023.

Life insurance should enhance, not thwart your estate plan
Life insurance is a valuable tool to protect your family, and potentially your business interests after your death. Your estate plan is the collection of legal documents that include directions about what should happen to your assets upon your death. Your estate plan could include either a Last Will and Testament or a maybe a Living Trust. One of the most common problems I discover when I review existing planning with clients or potential clients is the failure to coordinate the outcome of a will or trust and the outcome of life insurance proceeds. Let’s examine some of the potential problems this can create so that we can avoid them.

Please don’t give somebody a token $1 in your estate plan
Other than the myths that only the wealthy need estate planning, and that a having a will avoids probate court, the most common myth I have to dispel clients of is the one-dollar disinheritance myth. For many different reasons, some people desire to exclude an heir from their estate. Often this is a child or other close family member, and the reasons for doing so are diverse. The right way to exclude someone from receiving an inheritance from your estate is NOT to leave that person one-dollar.

HOUSING: Can’t pin blame on Joe
One letter writer blamed the housing inflation on Joe Biden. It’s ridiculous to blame one man for especially our local housing costs. It’s not just that folks are moving here in droves. It’s that very rich folks are moving here in droves. They’re rich enough to pay high prices, in some cases, “name your price” amounts, to get land on the hills, build expensive houses/mansions, pay the prices.
